Today my "service engine soon" AND "ABS" dash lights came on. It also hard shifts from 2-3. Of course, all out of the blue. What would cause these two lamp to illuminate at the same time? I checked all fuses and and disconnected the battery briefly. The "service engine soon" is now gone from the reset, but the ABS light is still on and the unusual shifting is still occurring. Any ideas?

I had a 'hard shift' problem that was caused by a speed sensor I think located in or near the rear end. Don't have a clue as how the ABS light could be related.
Thanks, I'll look.
How's the speedometer? Last time I had the abs light on, there was no speedo either; it was the vehicle speed sensor in the rear end; $20 or so and 10 minutes to replace.
The speedo is off til 35 mph, when it comes up. I checked the rear sensor, o.k., I gave it a visual with a wiggle. Hope that's it! Thanks!
That's likely it. Only problem with replacing them is having to buy them at the dealer. Napa may have had one, but they're just as bad as the dealer for not having any Saturday afternoon or Sunday hours.
