Can someone explain the different automatics used in new Ford trucks? Is any of them related to the old AOD?

Al

the '4R70W' is a direct descendant of the AOD (Atrocious Overdrive Debacle)

BUT...........it uses a different converter and input arrangement to the 'direct' clutches, to prevent that bogging in 3rd feeling

plus it has a lock-up converter and no governor

What about the E4OD / 4R100 ? Are they decent? Thanks, Al

about the best, in my opinion

it's just a C-6 with an OD hung on the front, plus electronic controls

As good as the 4L80 GM?

Al

The C-6's were famous for being tough as nails. Don't think either one will hold up to the new 5-speed torqueshift though - but the jury is still out on it - too new.
