my check engine light came on a few moths ago and i read it could be the gas cap so i did what it said to do 3 tanks of gas and it went out but now its on again and wont go out any suggestions

Get the code pulled and go from there.
change the fuel filter then find an O ring or gasket shim for under the OM cap seal.
