thought I smelled gas near the back of the truck. I have two tanks, 94 F150
brought it into the shop, they had it for a day and at 75 bucks an hour they couldnt find it but yet I can still smell it. I had the front tank replaced a year ago and no other troubles until now. I crawled under it and cant see any signs of a leak...but can smell it at times.
any ideas?

Well is you have the time and three friends that will work for beer... I suggest you pull off the bed and take a look at both tanks. You may have a bad seal or a leaking quick-disconnect fitting. By pulling off the bed you can see (up close and personal) both tanks and all hoses. It's a lot of work but you are less than 2 months away from dealing with the winter snow storms, so it may be worth it to just get it done and out of your hair.

If your setup is the same as my 93 F150 then you have a poly front tank and steel rear tank. My rear tank started leaking about 3 years ago and I never did find the leak so now I just use the front tank. Ford keeps sending me a recall notice concerning the fuel tank check valve and fuel pressure regulator, which allows fuel from one tank to be returned to the other possibly causing an overfill . The recall also involves replacing the in tank fuel pumps. The work will be covered under warranty up to 150K miles. If the leak is due to a bad o-ring or connector, or something other than a rusted out tank, then there is a fair chance that it will get fixed with the recall and the cost to you will be zip.
I had this recall done several years ago. When doing the work, they failed to properly attach the fuel line coupler on the top of the front tank, had gas smell though no signs of leaking 'til it came off altogether. Only then did I figure what was causing the odor.
