? Giving Dog Water while In Car: Best Method

What's the best way to provide water to a dog in a vehicle? I use a plastic Folgers coffee container on the floor of a pickup truck. It works, but occasionally it gets knocked over. There must be a better way.

Like a folding travel bowl, perhaps?

I suspect the success rate will be about the same as what you already have.

Pull over and stop.

Or better still, water it when stopped because you have to stop too sometime.

I think he's talking about the dog in the bed of the truck when driving.

I used a "spill-proof" bowl similar to these:

with moderate success when I was regularly taking my dog with me in the truck, some years back (I don't have a dog right now).

Get a bigger glass so it holds enough for you and your dog.

a short/small dish that fits in a cup holder is what I use. I put less than an inch of water in it so they can't really spill it but never go thirsty either.

I didn't say anything about that. Stop the truck before you try to pour water in a dish. Idiots trying to do 15 other things while driving are the reason car insurance is so expensive.

Being that this technique requires one hand off the wheel and a certain amount of paying attention on your part to be sure you're not squeezing water onto the seats or the floor I'd have to say this sounds like a bad idea. Probably no worse than flying down the highway talking on your cell phone and applying your lipstick, but a bad idea, nevertheless, especially since it presumably implies an unrestrained dog in the front seat with you. What do you think's going to happen if you lose control of your vehicle?

Why not just pull over every so often and let the dog out of the vehicle for a good stretch and a nice big drink?

A spill resistant bowl like the ones mentioned might reduce the splasing but dogs are pretty messy when they drink, so your car is still gonna get wet.

I do not like the idea of multitasking while driving. Getting the dish ready and keeping an eye on rover as he drinks as you roll down the road sounds very dangerous to me. Why not just pull over, set the dish and food outside and give the both of you and other drivers a break.

Go to the pet store and buy a water dish that is specifically designed for automobiles (it works pretty good in trucks too).

The dish has a hole in the middle that the dog can put his nose through to get to the water inside. The dish is about 3 or 4 inches deep, and probably

6 or 7 inches around. It is very stable and can not tip over. Well, it can tip over I suppose, but if that happens you will be having serious problems and the water on the roof isn't going to upset you ver much.

Depending on the size of the dog - our Mini Schnauzers learned to drink from a regular-sized cup that we then put in the cup holder. We could put a lid on it when they didn't want to drink, and the cup holder kept it from spilling.

put a steel weight in the bottom of the container? I would suggest lead but don't want to give Fido lead poisoning.
