Re: 4x4 and 4x2 ???

you know, everyone else said no, but your comment got me to thinking.....

I learned to drive on a 70-something F150 without the 4x2 on it (wasn't popular back then to boast). that was back in the 80's I now have a decrepit old 86 F150 4x2 and it definetly FEELS different. the cab seems bigger, the handling stiffer, the clearance taller. i cannot just go out and measure the differences, cause I don't have the orginal available, but it does seem different.

My guess is that frame, body, and other such things were/are for interchangability from 4x2 to 4x4. the old F150 I don't think you could have gotten in 4WD stock (aftermarket, sure) at that time. 250's and 350's i think you could have then.

just my guess, but so long ago that I could easily be wrong

Some ol' junk chevy four by dually's were designated 3X3's. Just depends on what the drug addicted engineers were on that day.

I always thought 3x3 in the Chevy meant it would sit 6 people.. Those trucks were ugly. Usually painted gold and rusted out, dented, just ugly.

The only UGLIER truck was the International 4 Door I think mid '60's the local utility company had them for years. They were painted Highway Stripe Yellow.

OK, now that class is over - the pop quiz!

If I am on a 2X1 then, what is my transportation? ;)
