Anyone know where to find a repair manual for my 97 Ranger, one that's better than Haynes or Chilton? The only other thing I found was a monster 3000 page, $110 thing from Helm. That's more than what I need. TIA Tom Seattle
Go check out eBay item #7913035196. It a copy of the ford service manual on CD. I bought one for my 93, you can print out the parts you need. Total cost is about 10 bucks. No, I do know the guy selling the CD.
I just got my '99 truck CD acouple of weeks ago, and I'm happy with it. With shipping I paid $30. Alongwith my Haynes and Chiltons manual I figure I can do any work I need or wantto do.
The 'thing' about the Helm Service Manual is that; it covers the truck from the tread on the bottom of the tires to the skin on the roof and everything in between. That price may seem expensive now, but if you intend to do your own work, it would be money well-spent. Those "fix-it" manuals leave out too much important information and are largely a waste of money. Now some folks love fooling with a computer and use the manual on CD, but for me, that is a big PITA. Give me a paper manual everytime. You might try eBay for your choice of paper or CD version of the Helm Service Manual....you might get lucky. Either version, new/used, will pay for itself very quickly.
OK, so I recently ordered the $110 monster from Helm. I was planning on getting the CD from service bulletins but the site does not show a 'lock' icon indicating a secure connection in the lower left corner of my browser at the 'enter CC number' page. Also, they show no phone number or physical address on their site and did not reply to my email. If I am going to buy anything online these conditions have to be met or I will not give my CC # or buy anything from them.
Yeah, had the same security concerns. Please see the response that I received from service bulletins:
Lee, I can assure you that your credit card information is trasmitted securely when you order. The browser icon does not show up because the side bars on the page are not transmitted over the secure connection. The center portion of the page, where you enter your credit card information, is transmitted securely. If you right click in this center area and go to Properties, it should indicate it is secured and allow you to view the certificate. If you have any other questions about it let me know. We don't have an 800 number, but you can call me during the day at 972-883-6203 to place an order if you would prefer. I'm frequently in and out of the office during the day, so please leave a voice mail if you don't get me and I'll call you back as soon as I can.
They never responded to me this way. Did they provide their physical address? Oh well. My Helm book should be here soon, and I'll be drooling. Can't drool over a CD, tried it.
