1999 Chev. Lumina 3.1 V6

I recently bought this car, has 100,000 miles and runs great except for the following problem. It happens at no certain time, just radomly, but you will be driving and for no apparent reason the engine will shut off. It feels like it pre-ignites and then shuts down completely. After letting it sit for several minutes, it restarts, and usually runs fine. The problem may occur 2 days in a row, or not for 2 weeks. Very hard to figure out what is going on. Any help would be appreciated.

Have the computer checked for codes. Also take everything hanging on the ignition key off. The weight could cause the problem on a worn ignition key.
