How do remove the coupling plate from inside the extension tube so I can change the pump shaft front seal ?

From the response to my posting 2005-07-16 12:34:56, can I assume this is not a task to be attempted lightly? Jaguar sold me the repair kit so it must be possible. Just need to get the plate off but I can't seem to shift it.
