90 wrangler prob

Jan 15, 2005 2 Replies

Got a 90 wrangler with a 4.2 5 speed. Seems to backfire when driving. The motor dies out, but if you feather the throttle you can keep it going but it backfires bad..... Any suggestions??

TIA

John

I would first check the power connections to the coil. They have a crappy Ford coil connector that gets corroded out easy.

I would say the same thing but maybe pop the cap off and have a look at the rotor if the coil connection is good. If the rotor tab is wasted or bent somehow it will run badly.
