93 XJ clock pinout?

Question

I'm attempting to wire an OEM clock into my '93 Cherokee Country. There is no connector that I can see (Maybe they took it out because the radio was standard) so I was thinking of splicing into the radio harness.

The clock has an 8-pin male connector labeled with letters, and the following wires:

"A" Black (ground, obviously) "B" Orange, Black Stripe "C" Pink "D" N/C "E" N/C "F" Purple "G" Blue "H" N/C

I'm guessing there are hot, keyed, and illumination wires in addition to ground, but what about the fifth.

Is the clock designed to snap apart so I can see where the wires go. Would putting 12 volts on the non-black wires to see what happens be a bad idea?

I wonder if a factory service manual would have a wiring diagram that would include this kind of info?

Would it be possible to fire-up the vehicle and then do voltmeter checks between the various wires and ground?

That's kind of what I was hoping. I'm undecided whether I should invest in one myself, because although I like to be knowlegable about how things work and are put together I don't plan to do any mechanical work on it.

Actually I know what the wires on the jeep do since I'm replacing the (broken) factory receiver and have the diagram that's printed on top of the old radio. I just need to know which wire does what on the clock. The clock actually came from an older vehicle (an '88 I think), but fits my opening.

If it means anything, on the wires leading the the radio, pink is constant, purple/white is keyed, and orange/black is illumination
