Adding some diamond plate

Hi all,

I have a 95 YJ and I want to remove the step/flare beneath the door, and put on some aluminum diamond plate. Anything I need to know before I bolt it on? Anything to help prevent future corosion in that area. It is solid now, no rust, but I don't want to give it anyplace to start. I'll take any and all suggestions.

Thanks you,

Greg

First thing I think of when I see diamond plate is " that guy is trying to hide some holes".

Every place aluminum contacts steel, you will have a hole burned through in short order from electrolysis.

Insulating under it will just hold water and rot it that way. Gluing it on with butyl might work...

This is just a suggestion, but I have noticed that the diamond plate rocker panels are also made from UV treated thermoplastic that bonds to the vehicle with super duty 3M double sided tape. I have seen them in black, and they look nice. I don't know about anyone else, but for me unless you stand right up close to it, you can't tell it's not metal. And this thermoplastic may eliminate your problem of metal touching metal and causing corrosion in the future. As I said, just a suggestion.
