Cherokee Haynes Manual

I just recently bought a 2001 Cherokee Sport and decided to buy a Haynes manual for it. The only manual the parts store had was from 1984-2000, but I bought it anyway.

Should I take it back and look for a 2001 book, or is the 2000 model pretty much the same as the 2001?

Thanks for the advice, Sean

Personally, I think you shoudl take it back even if the 2001 and 2000 are identical, which I think they are not. What you really need to do any service on your Jeep is the factory service manual. It costs a bit more than the Haynes costs, but the Haynes is not even suitable for wiping your ass. The pages offer very little useful information, so you can't fix anything; and the pages are too rough to use as toilet paper.

Take it back and get a FSM. It'll cost you more, but you will quickly see the value.

I got the 2000 Haynes Manual for a '99 TJ and it's fine. All you need is exploded pics of the inline 6 (same as yours) and the axles/gears/transmission. The wiring diagrams/instructions aren't that great, but a monkey could wire these vehicles anyway. I got the Haynes book for $6 on Ebay too, saving about $95 on the Jeep shop manual. Between that and Google searches, I can't see spending the $100 on the manual, but more power to those who can and get more good out of it.

All: Thanks for the advice. I'm not a mechanic (in any way) but want accurate info on my Cherokee.

Thanks again, Sean

I get the factory manual for each car I buy. They pay for themselves over and over. All the infomation is detailed in one place. They make replaceing things like heater cores and case seals a lot easier.I just got the Jeep manual and its worth it. When you are done with the manual you can put it on E-bay.

... then you REALLY don't need the confusion that the Haynes is going to throw into the mix.

I agree. If you have an ebay account you can get service manual for less than a Haynes.

I just got my first service manual a couple of days ago and there's no comparison to Chilton's or Haynes. Everything you need to know is covered.
