first outting

Well, bought an 81 CJ7 with 3 1/2" lift and 33" tires last month, haven't had it out because transmission is shot, ( new one sitting in garage ) drivable, but bearly. Anyway daughter wanted to go take a freind up a trail in her 95 YJ, 3 1/2" and 31"s, didn't want her to go by herself so decided to take out my CJ, at least if trans goes now I have the replacement. Well I can tell you, we've been to a Jeep Jamboree, and done other trails, so have seen a few, but this one was by far the best trail I've been on, it had eveything, mud, hills, sidehills, lakes to drive through, but at the end it off is a hill about 300' long, or should I say down, bolders, solid rock, gravel, and straight down, now I know you are supposed to use compression, not brakes, ha, not a chance, daughter in front of me, bet she hit her front bumper when her back wheel was 2' off the ground. Anyway, deffinately a test for any jeep, and ears, ( wife screamed all the way down ) would like to try the other way, but would deffinately need lockers front and back before that. So just had to share my first in my own jeep, not as a passenger in my daughters. Greg

My family and I Jeeped together last night. We went out for a trail ride at dusk to watch the eclipse, and ended up leaving Jeep stuck in a ditch and walking home. Had to get the Chevy out this morning and go pull Jeep out. It was a nice walk, though, about 3 and a half miles. No sarcasm intended, it really was a nice walk. I mentioned to wifey that there were a number of ways that I could have avoided being stuck: being equipped with locking differentials (which are on the shopping list), being equipped with a winch (which is on the shopping list), taking somebody else with me trail riding, or simply listening to the 10-year-old's advice about going over the fallen tree instead of around it. :-)

Looks to me like the No Slip and the Lock Right are pretty much the same thing, why the big difference in price?

While they're both made by Powertrax, the No Slip is a MUCH smoother operating locker than the Lockrite is. The No Slip is a much more evolved and refined locker, probably a bit stronger too from what I've read. For a rear axle installation, I wouldn't choose the Lockrite over the No Slip, that's for sure.

If he sends one with both tops down, you have to share. It's an unwritten newsgroup rule. :)
