GJC 97 ABS light on, take to dealer or not?

MY GJC 97 limited recently has the ABS light on. initially, it was on and off from time to time, or off when started, and on after a minute. now it just stays on. I am wondering if I should take it to a dealer to check out, or to a local garage. Does local garage have the diagnosis tool for this?

it is very likely just a electronic problem, as the heated seats start to turn on itself from time to time also. really annonying to sit on a hot pad not knowing when it is going to bake your ass.

ABS light on means the ABS is not functioning. Time to clean the dirt/debris out of the ABS computer connector.

Get a can of contact cleaner, dilectric grease, plastic bag, old toothbrush, some paper towels, and a ziptie.

Remove the connector by lifting up on the metal release and rotating it out. Cut the ziptie that holds the shell on (or remove it for reuse) Some are just tabs. YMMV.

Remove the air filter and set the plastic bag in there with some paper towels in the bottom. You now have a little sink to work in.

Spray the connector and brush the top of the ABS connector using toothbrush and contact cleaner. *best to use gloves as contact cleaner is hell on skin

*also good idea to keep it away from paint as it's also good paint remover.

After you have removed the debris from the connector, put some dilectric grease in there to keep out future crud and also pack the pins. Put it back on.

most of the time that clears up all ABS issues.

Switch needs replacing or repair. Don't have any info on that.

This is a pic:

On the 93 it's right next to the air box on the fender. Fairly sure it's there on the 97 as well.
