HArd Top = Full Doors???

I'm still looking to grab a Hardtop for my 2004 TJ offa eBay. Ok, OK, so I'm a cheap SOB & looking for the deal of a lifetime. Actually I'm trying to find the deal of a lifetime in my area (Tampa) Now to the question - Someone has a hardtop listed & is saying that it "Requires your Jeep to be equiped with the full hard doors." I've never been aware of this fact before so I wrote & asked him about it & his response was - "Most sellers don't tell you that the hard top needs the hard doors with roll up windows to close with a complete fit. If you have the half doors with plastic, zipper windows the doors when closed will leave a big openning over the top of the window. The only way to correct this is to buy the full doors or adapter moldings to insure a fit when closing your doors." Now this is a new wrinkle into my search for the best deal & I'm not looking to do full doors but can anyone enlighten me on these "adapter moldings" he mentioned?

I'm not sure that's true. Of course, I don't have a hardtop, but assuming it were true, it would seem that hard doors would then come in 2 varieties... 1 type for use with a softop and 1 for use with a hardtop.

i run my soft doors (soft uppers and lowers) with my hardtop on occassion and they seem to seal as good as they do on the soft top.

Just to clarify... I would agree if you were buying a softtop for a Jeep that only came with a hardtop as you'd need the plastic window surrounds that are present on the softtop models. However, I think those window surrounds basically match up to the form of the hardtop so putting a hardtop on would negate the need for the surrounds.

Maybe I'm missing something.

He must have a set of hard doors to sell as well, because he's blowing smoke up your skirt. If hard doors fit with the soft top (as would be the case with the factory dual-top option) than it stands to reason that soft doors will fit with the hardtop. And since I have both hard and soft doors and a hardtop and softop for my '00 TJ, that is my experience. What may happen is when driving with hardtop and soft doors, a wind gust may displace the soft door frame for a second and make a gap. But that happens with the soft top too.

You need "adapter moldings" for the soft top, but you already have those...

Ya'll right. Me thinks this guy has his info bassackwards. When he's talking about "adapter moldings" it sure does sound like the moldings for soft top that he's confusing somehow to be needed with a hard top. I did go back to see if he had a set of doors for sale & no he doesn't. It looks more like he's just a another poor misinformed individual. Apparently he's not hooked into this newsgroup. Thanx for all the input fella's.

Once up a time...when converting...I had the hardtop on and the soft 1/2 doors...spent a couple of days that way and they fit just fine.
