I bought a rusted-out jalopy in 1989 for $700. I proceeded to put an interior in it and buy some fenders & rocker panels from JC Whitney and had a guy paint it and leave off the woodgrain trim down the sides. I put chrome spokes on it.
That thing has provided me and my family with not only fun and adventure, but is great for commuting in the snow. It's got 175K on it, and is need of a carburetor rebuild (I have a kit and may install it this weekend.) but can go places that many a CJ owner doubts. Although it's starting to rust again on the front valance and at the top of the tailgate, it still works great.
It has been used for Guys Nite Out, as we can smoke cigars in it. My wife would never allow that in her '98 GC 5.9 Limited. I have this sentimental attachment to it that won't allow me to sell and upgrade to something more practical and fuel efficient, like a Cherokee. Hmm. Guess I'll have it for a while.....
