increasing horsepower with a resistor

I saw this on ebay:

Seems to good to be true, and I don't understand how it would work. Has anyone had good experience with this modification?

I've seen tricks like this that physically move the incoming air temperature sensor to the filter box in order to sense cooler air. I'm told it does make a difference, although I don't think it changes the timing as much as enriches the mixture (maybe both?). Buy it, try it, and let us know how it works. (get a dyno test, though. none of this, "it seemed to help" stuff.)

Heh.. 9$ for a .03$ resistor. What a scam!

All it does is trick your computer into leaning out the mix. That in itself isn't a good idea. Although you will get more power you also run a lot hotter and risk burning out the piston face.

How about another engine? Modern engines last much longer now because of the fuel management systems, rather than any breakthroughs in engine design. Don't mess with them unless you know what you are doing

I tried this guy's idea several years ago on my '93 I-6 Wrangler after reading the appropriate section of the Jeep service manual describing how the system works. It's kinda like what he says. BUT, not only does it advance the timing, it also enriches the mixture. So, yes it does work. The slight downside could be you'll use a little more gas. If you want to get serious about it, you could use a variable resistor and set it up so you could change it while your driving!

I would seriously advise reading this link before buying anything like a resistor to advance your timing and increase power.

Better yet, get 3 of 'em and triple your gain! Just think, 36-60 extra horsepower for a mere $27! Order now!

Heck, just cut the circuit so the resistance goes to infinity and turn your Jeep into a match for the Jato Chevy.

Recreated recently on Mythbusters on the Discovery Channel. They couldn't get real JATO units so they substituted 4 rocket motors. Bummer, but they didn't have a good speed measurement on how fast the Chevy got up to, but it easily outran the chase helicopter before coming to a rather unspectacular stop, unharmed.
