Of deer hits and airbags

Last one I hit was in the Jeep. It appeared from nowhere out of the dark. 4 lane highway, I was running about 55 or 60. No reaction from me but to slam on the brakes and skid to a halt on the side of the road. When I finally got the Jeep stopped, the deer fell off the front bumper. I proceeded on about 1/2 mile to the nearest gas station and called the Fish and Game(that's all you have to do around here). Didn't have time to mess with the deer, so I told a couple of good ol' boys about it, and before I could get back in the Jeep they were headed out to a pickup in the parking lot.

Don't blame the hillbillies. Blame the rut. Bucks are steady on the move for a quickie and does will often lead them on a chase before submitting. The moon is coming full with an early evening transit and that gets the deer moving after dark even more. Might be different in your area, but hunters these days mostly sit in trees watching bait piles. A hunter walking steadily from the stand after dark could pass within a few feet of a deer and not make it move. Next time you see a hillbilly driving by with a big buck on the back of his truck, rest assured that that is one deer that won't be wandering onto the interstate in a haze of ungulate lust.

Glad to hear your son is okay and here's hoping the insurance settlement goes his way.
