The biggest problem with negotiating is not knowing what to negotiate. How in the hell do we know what the dealer makes, what the manufacturer makes and what to negotiate.

Negotiating for a car is having an emotional argument with yourself. How bad do you want the car? That's no basis for negotiation.

Negotiation is like a paint job. 90% of a proper job is prep work.

Of course it also the Windoze crapola software used which retards the user to just a 5 year old with editing control. The good ol days of rn and trn are gone where you had more control over editing.

And learning to spot the Earl Schieb class salestypes...altho it is fun screwing with them every now and then if you're bored.

I still mostly use slrn; I've been playing with knode lately and kind of like it.

But top posting is SO MUCH easier to read. You don't have to scroll down (sometimes a LONG way down) to the bottom of the post just to see a sometimes one or two line reply.

Snipping out the part of the original post that is unrelated to your reply also helps make for an easier, quicker read.

I much prefer top posted replies.

I was too broke for the Timex and never got around to Commies or CoCos. My first home box was 286, but I cobbled up a 10MHz 8088 (with the V20 refit), a 20MB ST-225 and a Prometheus 1200bps (soon replaced by a USR Sportster) to serve as a platform for my barefoot OPUS BBS in the late-80s.

I'm using Procomm 2.4.2 right now. It does just what I want it to, every time.

And then there's those who don't follow the lead of the previous three posters....

I wasn't broke until I blew my paper route stash (and more) on a TI99/4A in 1982. I used to be a bottom-post nazi when I started dabbling on Usenet in the late 80s (rn!), but I now prefer reading top posts. Having to click the *Read the rest of this message...* link to see a bottom post when Googling an archived thread gets tedious.

I don't believe I read through this whole post & didn't learn crap about negotiating a deal with a sleaze ball car sales man I just hate walking into a dealers, I think I'd rather have a root canal without Novocain but at least I sure feel a bunch better about top posting.

Hear, hear! My point exactly. Unfortunately, the newsserver for my home account blows, so I use Google for all my NG access instead. Plus I like being able to get on and access the NG from google from any computer. Not to mention it does a nice job of including all related posts (albeit sometimes even posts from 2+ years ago) with like subjects, and builds a nice tree of which response applies to which message. Without this, I would have to make sure to log-on regularly with a NG reader to make sure I have those old posts archived. And I still would have to hit Google for the older thread prior to my joining this group.

So, when someone bottom-posts on a LONG email thread, I have to hit the stupid "Read the rest of this message..." link, which is a PITA. Lucky for me most here either out the extraneous junk, or top-post.

There is one jeep dealer in Ga. who does not play the price game One price thats it. Most new car dealers make their money from year end volume rebates, not off of the retail sales. The more they sell the higher their year end kick back .

But not everyone feels that way. I don't like scrolling through dozens of lines of prior quotes to read a posting.
