I had my start solenoid fail on my years ago. Internal post or something was loose. I'd tap a bump on the road or be making a right turn and the engine would drop dead. Come to a stop. Turn the key. Everything fine until the next time. Changed part, never happened again. Sorry, I haven't looked to see what year, etc. you have, but mine is '75 CJ5 258.

I had thought of that (ground strap) as well. I will have to look closely at that.

Sheesh! You have hit on all of my maintenance lapses in, like, three posts. You are making me look bad, and I can do that pretty well by myself.

My alternator has NEVER been in straight, and this has got to play hell on the bearings, which in time will get to the armature, which can do what you just said. Combine the sideways pull of the belts with the sand and pond scum, and the alternator could easily be pissing and moaning.

Can I get one of you guys to stand Mrs. CRWLR on her head and shake some coinage from her pockets? She is not going to like hearing this, especially after the motorcycle brochures showed up at my house last night.
