Smitty Built Side Bars ?

Apr 01, 2004 5 Replies

I got these super duper titanium indestructible side bars in black. They went on easy and looked great.......................for about 3 weeks. Now the finish is starting to flake off big time and they are all rusted.

Place where I got them is exchanging them no problem but this time I am going with the Black Textured ones.

Question is does any body else have these and if so did the finish fail on them and if so how long before it did. These were not chipped in any way, the finish just failed.

I am wondering if my expectations are to high to have the finish not come off!

I used to have welded-on Smittybilt sidebars and they held up to some amazing offroad abuse and never rusted. It was only that they started to get in the way of doing harder offroad trails that I finally replaced them with body-mounted rockerguards.

Didn't Smittybilt buy Steelhorse?

I forgot who bought Steelhorse but it wasn't Smittybilt. :)

The former management of Steel Horse (the very folks who brought you fabric Jeep tops that actually rusted) bought SmittyBilt from Lund International (also got Trailmaster in the deal). This all happened about a year and half ago. If things are rusting or the finish is flaking, you now know why. That's why its being called SmittyHorse.
