Hello all, first post here at rec. I lurk at alt. but have just started lurking here ... I'm wondering how much power loss I'm gonna have going to a bigger tire on my '04 TJ, I realize I'm going to loose 5th gear - not to upset about that... wondering if anyone may have a suggestion or two about the size of tire I should jump up to for a stock 2.4L unlifted... I was thinking that a 31 inch tire maybe a little to tall for my little engine - I do a lot of highway driving - very little off roading - but I do enjoy the occasional romp through the woods - hoping not to loose to much on my MPG - any suggestions would be greatly appreciated ~D

I do have to downshift to 4th on big hills and headwinds .... but I was figuring that jumping up to a 30 inch will only add 1/2 inch or so to the diameter - If I loose 5th gear its no big deal but I don't want to have difficulty in 4th... ~D
I have a 98 with a 2.5 (5 speed) with a 2 1/2 lift) with 33 x 12.5 and don't have a problem. The only issue(s) that you may come across is long incline HWY rides and if (I don't) off-road...clearence. It looks great, the milage (heck Jeeps are as airodynamic as a brick anyway) isn't affected much. I wouldn't want 33's on an automatic ( with the A/C on) entering the freeway with an 18 wheeler on the horizon. Haha I never understood the concern. George ..
