I took my 91 XJ in a couple weeks back to have a blown brake line from the master cyclinder to the rear axle replaced. Ever since I've got the truck back it doesn't shift right. It won't shift out of first until the tach hits 3K. Also it won't shift into overdrive until I'm doing over 72mph. It never did this before and it's getting really annoying. Any ideas what it could be? Also I hear a loud whistle when I put my foot into the gas, like a turbo sound.

Check that all vacumn hoses in the engine compartment are attached and not damaged.

First thing I would do is to look in all the areas where work was performed....essentially follow the brake line from front to back.... and look around the areas to see if something (vacuum line, electrical connection, etc.) was left disconnected. I would suspect something was left or got disconnected (vac line or electrical connection) around the master cylinder area. Check the throtte body and make sure all the connectors are in place. Also look for any signs of contamination due to brake fluid (soaked electrical connectors or rubber hoses); brake fluid can be a strong solvent (it will take paint off). Address any of these areas as you find them. The other input to the transmission is the throttle valve cable (TV cable); it is the black cable connected to the throttle body and runs back and down to the tranny. Check its adjustment: push the release button/lever and slide the adjuster all the way out (pull it towards the passenger side). Next, get in and floor the gas pedal; you;ll hear the cable adjuster ratchet as the adjustment is made. You're done with that. Might as well check the fluid level of the transmission while you're at it.
