110 v8 chugging

Hi Gang. When I am driving at 30mph or less I seem to chugging as if fighting. Any clues.

If it smoothes out with speed sounds like it could be missing on a couple of cylinders. Check the plugs and also check the leads are on ok. Also worth checking the dizzy cap for the slightest foreign bodies, threy need to be super clynically clean. Give the rota arm a good clean and refit (don't forget to refit it or you will have hours of fun!).

Best bet would be to check spark on all 8 cylinders, then compression if possible then you (and us) will have a better idea of possible faults.

Cheers, Sam.

yes it can be and be very careful getting it off - if you pull too hard, you can pull the innards apart and have to faff about re-assembling it.

Also check the advance retard plate under the plastic cover (3 x head screws) Mine had stuck & was causing all sorts of power problems.

i had the dizzy out the other day and was vacuuming all the crap off the motor, inadvertantly sucked up the shaft that joins the dizzy to the cam-gear. heard a big clunk as it went through the elbow of the vacuum handle. so yeah, be very careful.

Sam.
