90 Defender Battery Container Lugs

Dear All

I have a J reg (91) Defender 90 that I'm about to fit an auxiliary tank to. The tank is fitted under the passenger side (it's a "handed" version of the standard one under the drivers side). To get it to fit as far up as possible ( and so give as much ground clearance as possible I'd like to remove the two "lugs" that stick out of the underside of the battery box that is under the passenger seat.

Can anyone tell me what these are for and whether this'll cause any problems?

Thanks

Paul

Lugs?

Can you be more specific?

If its the bits that sit lower in two places, then its the area where the battery clamps fits.

battery clamps fits.

Hi Mark

Many thanks for the reply and sorry for being so vague.

You're right, I meant the two bits that sit lower than the rest of the underside of the battery box. Are these just to strengthen the clamps on the inside or do the clamps come right thru?

Ever heard of any one cutting them off and if this caused any problems (mine seem pretty rotten any way :-)?

Thanks

Paul

battery clamps fits.

Its hard to explain...

the battery clamps have a hook at the bottom. This little bump covers where the hook pertrudes from the box. If you but them off, the hook would still be there.

I cant see what issue this is causing you... They must only come down about 10mm.

Hi Mark

I was advised they needed to come off, but as you say, on reflection, it hardly seems worth it.

Thanks for the advice.
