A sad day

If you hear sobbing in the background it's just me ...

I have agreed to sell my beloved V8 Discovery and he will soon be departing for a new life in the Manchester area. If you see him outside a school or in a Tesco carpark somewhere give him a hug and tell him I still love him.

Right. Now that load of drivel is out of the way and I've got some spare cash what Land Rover can I get for a maximum - emphasis on the word MAXIMUM - budget of £2000? Well, I've still got to be able to play haven't I?

You could nick a P38 and run it for, oh, about a month on that budget...

Not that I'm bitter about the bills of course.

Chipes, I'd be more than sobbing if I had to move to, cough, Manchester...

If it's for 'play', my vote would be for a tax exempt Series or Rangie.

It's gonna be a pure plaything ... a Vauxhall Omega will do the daily chores.

I quite fancy an old Rangie ... gonna check out eBay :-)

Not for long it won't :)

(If my last managers' Omigod was anything to go by - 2 new engines in three years, cambelts snapping well before the required service interval etc...)

I had an Omega with the BMW Diesel, as seen in the P38. It was underpowered in the Omega, which probably goes some way to explaining why the diesel P38 has all the acceleration of a supertanker.

It did have a useful James Bond feature though. There was a button in the middle of the auto gearbox marked "S". It stood for "Smoke". If you pressed the S button, and floored the accelerator, the cars behind you would disappear in a big cloud of black smoke.

It would have been useful as a getaway tactic if it had actually made the car go any faster.

And that's a nasty cough you have there, to be sure. Now take a sip of something soothing and tell me more about this bobtail ...

... or I might be tempted to bid for the supercharged Range Rover on eBay :-)

On or around Mon, 02 Feb 2004 21:54:09 GMT, SteveG enlightened us thusly:

you should pick up quite a tidy one for 2K.

either that or a 90 - very capable off-road, if you put decent-sized tyres on it.

although there's loads of fun to be had with an ol' series II, and they can be picked up for peanuts, if you don't mind having to faff and fettle it. Especialy if you own a mig welder and can use it :-)

S'alright, I count people I like as Hnorary Yorkshiremen (and women) ;-)

Funny how all my machines over in Manchester Computing suddenly reboot when I make comments like that though, isn't it...

Fantastic news. I stayed out of all the arguing that went on over luckwill but was right behind those that did.

As the father of 6 and 4 year olds I think that it's great news indeed. I might just join you in a toast.

Do we need three cheers for Mother??

I'd prefer to draw a line under the whole sad affair.
