I don't have a radio in Marge at the moment, so took a VHF portable with me on the front seat yesterday afternoon for the Archers (crucial). I was very surprised by the 'ignition' interference when I started the engine - she's a 2.5TD!
I assume this is the alternator, so does the team think there's a suppressor failed/missing somewhere? If so, where should it be mounted?

Are the injectors fired electrically? Alternators normally wine and the wine isn't normally radiated (very far).
Don't think so. It's a rough buzz that rises in frequency with engine revs - you don't get the characteristic 'tic' of spark plugs (I assume electric injectors would be similar).
I'll investigate more thoroughly when it's warmer. Meanwhile, starting is good, etc.

Ah so the orginal description of ignition interferance is not particulary accurate. B-)
More like that from arcing in a motor? Varies with engine speed, sort of rules out a motor based source though. Does it alter character if you change the electrical load headlights on/off (I doubt that a 110 '88 has a heated screen front or back...)
It could be some static discharge from a belt or something like that.
