Numberplates - Lateral thinking

I've seen numberplates mounted on the ventilation flaps on the bulkhead, below the windscreen. Whether they still open I don't know. Also, I've seen them above the windscreen - you'd need to make a bracket. If your Land Rover's a Defender, a stick-on number plate on the front edge of the bonnet might be OK, but it might not be strictly legal - I have seen them, though. I f it's a series Land Rover, how about on the bonnet, fixed with a bracket - if you've got a bonnet-mounted spare wheel it could fit neatly just in front of that.

Just out of interest - why not stick it on the rad? Personal taste I know but I have had mine cable tied to the rad for about 2 years now and have had no problems with cooling in steady temperatures of 35'C and more when under heavy load towing etc.

I've got it there at the moment, after taking off the bumper, but running the V8 with a standard 2A rad, i wasn't sure it would cope.

Time will tell.

I'd have thought so, since mine failed because part of the plate was cracked off & missing. Clearly it counts.

Really annoying bit was that I had the replacement wedged down the front of the dashboard ready to go on, but somehow the garage 'missed' it and made up a new one :(

I used to have mine fitted to the bumper, but was fed up catching and breaking when climbing onto the wing.

Instead, I went to B&Q and bought a length of steel channel and a length of steel flat. I then welded up a U-shaped surround that bolts behind the roller fairlead for the winch. The number plate slides in from the side and is held in place with a plastic rivet. It sticks up above the bumper by an inch or so, but it's strong enough to stand on. Looks good, too.

Mine's on the bumper, to the left of the starter handle hole. Keeps it out of the way although the bottom edge of it is a big prone to getting whacked on the ground during steep descents.
