I bought new tyres not so long ago and asked the fitters why the letters were covered in blue stuff. They said that it was a protective wax and would, as you say, come off with warm, soapy water.
I saw them wash the blue stuff off with what looked like washing up liquid (in water) and a brush. They didn't seem to have to scrub very hard.

IMV the tyres look naff with white lettering on. Why not get them mounted the other way around so the lettering is on the inside, then it doesn't matter what colour the lettering is.

Dishwash liquid, warm water and a scrubbing brush. Shouldn't take more than a minute per tyre.
I have bought some MT tyres with white letters. The letter area also has a coating of some blue stuff for protection. The suppliers say that warm soapy water will remove this, but it is taking ages. Does anyone know of a quicker method? I know when I take them off road the letters will go anyway, but for the time being the tyres look naff.

Thanks for the replies, I think I will try a stiffer brush. I too would have had the tyres the other way round, but someone bought them for me and thought they would look nice!

I wish someone would buy me some tyres, fancy lettering or not.
I did the off road course at the national 4x4 show on Saturday and the XPC's just couldn't get me up one of the hills.
