185R14, M&S tyres?

Hi All,

I'm 'tidying up' the little shed that is our Rickman Ranger kit car and will probably need a set of new tyres before we start using it properly again.

When we first built it I think (it was a long time ago now) we used some M&S tyres that were on our Bedford CF camper and when they were finished we found some 'new' Colway M&S remoulds that were quite aggressive and worked perfectly on and off road (but were a bit noisy).

We then had to replace a pair (bent rear axle) and they still did the same pattern. They we had a pair that looked 'iffy' and Colway replaced them (inc fitting / balancing) foc, not bad service after 7 years. This pair were a different , less aggressive pattern and although seemed to work as well as the others were less noisy (asymmetric block spacing)?

Anyway, we will now probably need 5 new tyres and I'm finding them quite difficult to locate. Colway (now 'C-Tyres') do a 185R14 std road pattern remould for £15.95 a corner but this vehicle is a 'Jeep' style and we do actually take it down some mudy tracks in the winter (that we can't make in our saloons) and I also think it looks better with something a bit gnarly.

So, anyone know of any such tyres out there at a reasonable cost please?

All the best ..

Go up to 15s, and you've got a choice of Suzuki SJ rubber - as well as better ground clearance

Ok .. the white '5 spokes' are shabby (I was going to get them shot blasted whilst I had the tyres off etc).

The current 185R14's (80/82 profile) are about as big a diameter as the arches will take so anything I do has to keep that in mind.

Can you get 4 stud, 4-1/4" PCD (white spoked) wheels with the right offset (early RWD Ford) easily do you know please?

Falken 185/60R14 are about £35 a shoe, and very good tyres.

Are these offroad type tyres though Paul?

Also if I go down to a 60 profile on the same size rim my speedo goes out by 11% (and the Ranger is low enough geared as it is) ;-)

You could try asking on the Ricman Owner's Club Forum, see what other beople are using.

Failingthat Peugeot 205 1.9 GTi wheels are 15", & have the right stud pattern& offset. They need a little modification for the spigot dia, I'msorting out a set for my Ranger at the moment. T. Hart

In which case you wont go far wrong with C-Tyres off-road offerings.

14" can be a pain to source in much of a choice. Any chance of changing to 15"?

I think you're right. I certainly can't come up with a word that rhymes with all of those.

You've been quiet recently on here - all down to being too busy at work, I hope?

Hi Tony,

I have re-joined the RROC and even sent an e-mail to the membership sec asking for early access to the forum but as yet nothing?

Hmm, thanks for that and good to know before I start any work on these steel white spokes. ;-)

What sort of money would a set of such Pug wheels be do we know please?

Well that may be a possibility Dave, depending on how other avenues pan out.
