Camel Trophy Series 3?

Been meaning to put this up for a while and finally got around to it. I'm almost convinced it could be the real thing.

I make no apologies for the design (sic).

At the risk of raining on your parade I'd say it definitely isn't a genuine Camel Trophy SIII.

Firstly it's should have a tropical roof, secondly the hardtop sides are wrong, thirdly the rear tailgate is wrong, fourthly the originals were properly painted whereas this one has a roughly similar colour slopped roughly over marine blue and any other identifying bits are gone like the special headlight guards etc etc are all absent. The camel trophy stickers on the doors should be lower and judging by the type of radiator fitted, this is a much earlier LR than 1983 - the only year S3's were used on the Camel.

Have a look at:

Ah should have looked at URL first:-)

Mmmmm sounds as though the radiator is the definitive feature. You can't really tell with the colours as captured by a crappy digital camera and the roof could have been changed. It was the paint on the inside of the doors which made me think it maybe. But I'm happy to accept its probably a fake.

If anyone fancies rescuing it, its just off the road between Santa Teresa and Capotesta in northern Sardinia ->

Cheers for the comments.

I think it's probably worth sending the pic into LRO. They like these 'I found this wreck in...' pics. A few in the past have actually led to rescue and restoration - then, conveniently featured in their 'wrecks to riches' slot :-)
