Clear Indicators

Hi All

Does anyone know where I can get a clear set of indicators for my TD5 90 , I saw them on one of the lighting stalls at the LRE Show. They were about 7 quid each (but they only had one) and I have lost the details of the shop now :-(

Thanks Phil

they're the same lenses as the front position lamp. get a couple of spare lenses and a brace of amber bulbs (NOT offset pin ones) and bobs yer uncle. Had on the 110, they look neat.

I bought a pair of clear lenses from paddocks, 65p rings a bell, then I found a place that did coloured bulbs with the opposite (not offset) pins for not much, I have the link somewhere........ here it is

I see no reason why you couldn't do the same with your TD5 as I did with my 1984 110.

...or the flash mirrored ones - like Piglet has ;-)

Fit white lenses and buy yellow bulbs - somewhat cheaper!

Actually they are not the same as the front position lamps. The proper clear indicator ones have a built in reflector which the position lights do not. How much of a difference this makes I do not know - but that is the way it is - the brighter the better I would say, for safety's sake.

The clear indicators are made by LE Perei and are, I am told, available through most motor factors. They are also available from MG Rover garages - it is the same unit as fitted to the late old-style Mini Cooper.

You can use the clear indicators at the rear, though Land Rover don't on the models with clear front units.

The matching clear repeater on the wing is also fitted to many Rovers but I can't remember whether it is LEP that makes those too - it's too cold to go outside and look at my Defender. I'll have a look later.

Park your truck in the sun year-round in Queensland and the yellow ones will be clear in about 5 years - it worked for me!

Sorry to contradict - but I've just got one off the shelf - no relector!

Its an LEP unit I just looked at - perhaps the reflectors have been deleted.

the ones I've seen are exactly the same. The shape of the fresnel-style lens inside the lamp cover appears to be identical. These were the ones called LEP. The actual lamp unit however *is* different, you do need an indicator lamp unit and not a sidelamp one, the sidelamp kind places the bulb further forward (it's a smaller bulb, of course) which presumably gets the bulb filament to the focal point of the fresnel in the cover. 21W bulbs won't fit a sidelight unit properly.

they do fade, even in this country. Takes about 25 years though!
