Cyclone breather

well it looks ok but has anybody got a cut away diagram of the item and how it does what it does, I am intrigued and probably need a new one or maybe not.

Derek I used to be indecisive but now I am in two minds about it

It's basically a cylinder with vanes on the inside that causes the air to swirl, depositiong any oil on the walls that then drains down to the sump. There are no moving parts. Unless it has become physicaly damaged or blocked (if it's the latter there is something seriously wrong with the engine!) there is no point in replacing it. Assumng there is oil in evidence around it.... There is an O ring (LLO100000) that fits on the stub that goes into the engine, that could have harded and leak, or possibly even the drain hose could be perished. Or any oil leak could be warning of an impendimg head gasket failure (200Tdi) - have a look at the air filter for oil contamination.

Thanks Richard I thought you were on holiday you must never sleep. I thought about the pipe so I have already replaced it and the O ring when I did the head it is not blowing but there was a drop of oil on the bottom of the intake hose stub cant contaminate the filter on the 200 tho' as it feeds into pipe between the filter and turbo a lesson learnt from grenading series diesels I guess tho still possible if you get a really serious amount into the intercooler ( clean here btw ) the only thing I have not checked is the sump pipe is clear hmmm Derek
