Defender 300TDi ECU

Hi

Can someone tell be what date they started to put the ECU in the 300TDi engine on Defenders?

Also, what difference does it make in terms of performance, maintenance and reliability. Is it, for example in a vulnerable position for deep wading? (Not that I really want to be up to my knees in water!)

They're only on late model autos. I don't think the defender ever got one.

The ECU is only for EGR. Microcat gives two part numbers, but no "start" VIN, so it's likely to be a market specific thing (Germany and Switzerland being the prime candidates). There is a specific injector pump for the "ECU" Defenders too, also with no further info, with and without immobilisation.

We have seen these, but mostly on very late 300's. I've not done it, but I'd imagine (subject to dealing with the injector pump) that it could be done away with - removing the non-ECU EGR definately gives better running.

Cheers Richard
