disco 2

Well, I got it. Black '99 TD5, 129K miles, ACE, SLS, HDC, climate control, in nice condition inside and out...

2700 notes. Well chuffed. Only things noted so far are a couple of sidelights out and the fuel filter light is on, which either means it needs replacing or draining or both. All the other lights go out as they should, and don't come on again when driving... Yet to test function of the stuff like ABS,HDC etc, but the warning lights behaving is a good sign. Comes with a fair amount of history although not a complete record.

Back tyres are a bit shagged, but the fronts are OK and there's a brand new never used GT+4 on the spare. Dunno if those are still available, if so, I can get one and pair it with the new one, and have a decent set of tyres.

Aircon seems to be working, too - playing a bit, if you wind the temperature down it goes to saying "lo" and commences blowing cold air. Whether it's

*really* cold air, or just air from outside, will have to wait for a warm day to test :-) Pressing "demist" makes it change over to full welly on the screen vents.

Starts and runs OK in a brief test. On monday, I'll sort the insurance and take it to the tyre place.

OK, let's spoil the fun - not the easiest to keep looking clean!

In front of o/s/r wheel on chassis. 2 minute job.

uhm, define 'clean' - one river crossing a year does it for me - anything more is excessive, bordering on obsessive :)

Quite I let the rain do it, though it will get a wash once the roads are no longer being salted, so that will be late April/early May.

I've found out the reason why it was cheap...

oil leak, suspect rear crank seal. However, could be a lot worse - the garage are gonna fix it, hopefully by weds. Parts are on order and it gets a new clutch put into it as a precaution at the same time. Even with all that it's still gonna be well under 3.5K, and for the condition it's in and the toys that's good.

checked the aircon: turned the temp down to "Lo" and had a looksee under the bonnet: one of the pipes to the pump gets cold and the other warm, so it looks like it's working.

Fuel Filter light will be the dodgy water sensor - about =A320 to replace= =20 :) Common failure, along with a long list of others :)

Apparently you can fix it with a bit of heat ;)

I'm tempted just to wire it out :)

Austin,

Hope I'm not too late! I had issues with loud sounds from the gearbox regions last year on a Disco II that had done 130K miles. The problem turned out to be that dual mass fly wheel had broken. As the gearbox had to be removed I asked the dealer to replace the clutch, but when the dealer had the gearbox removed he said that the cltuch didn't need replacing as it was only showing minimal wear.

regards

Nb. Good luck with the new toy I'm up to 148K miles and hoping for a lot more!!!

yeah, this one had an oil leak, so chances are the clutch is contaminated. At 129K miles, it's not worth saving 60 quid by not replacing the clutch while it's apart.

and yes, the DM flywheel is iffy (although not broken) so that's getting changed too.
