I think you'll be horrified when you find out. Once a car gets to that age and has a strong history you are frankly best off keeping it. Unless, of course, your needs have changed and it's no longer the right vehicle for the job.

That's why I got rid of mine. It returned about 30% of the total I'd spent on it in the previous three years. Then again, that amounts to about 2K per year, which is somewhat better than the depreciation I'm suffering on the Volvo.

There's a couple of things that can cost big money on a Disco. The most obvious is the gearbox - if that is original (and it could be at that mileage) then the next owner has to budget 1000 pounds for that replacing in the next 40-50K miles. Unless of course, it's an auto, in which case no big problem.

The next most obvious is the catalytic convertor. Even an aftermarket one is £700 ish (don't fret Martyn, yours has been done!). A genuine one is over a grand.

If it's a real minter, and an auto with good cats, I'd suggest you could see 4K for it if well presented. A manual would be worth

500-1000 pounds less. Then again, you might struggle to fetch anywhere near that.

All IMHO, and condition is everything...

Thats depends on what he thinks it is worth, the insurance company for my recent write off has offered me =A3650 but for a 95/M reg Mondeo with=

137,000 miles and in poor condition (needed new bumpers front and rear, no wheel trims and the rust moth was starting to show) a few hundred quid more than I thought it was worth. B-)

I'd agree, Parkers puts a "private good" manual one at around 3.5k.

Old one went on Friday - like losing an old friend. Still, time's a great healer and I'm over it now. The comfort, LPG and extra doors make it well worth it alone :-)
