Disco Headlamps

I just had a dip beam bulb fail on my 1 year old Disco TD5.

No big deal you might think. Except that the screws which you need to remove to pull forward the headlamp unit had siezed solid. They are made of soft material (probably aluminium) with a cross head and despite being careful, the inevitable happened - head mutilated. The main offender is deeply recessed into the plastic molding so a quick cut with a hacksaw to make a slot for a blade screwdriver wasn't an option.

The vehicle was still under warranty, so I went back to the dealer who took a look at the light assemblies and decided that *both* were so badly corroded that they needed to be replaced.

Unusual after only 14,000 miles I thought, and I'm not aware of doing anything out of the ordinary. Is this a recognised weakness? Is there a recognised fix (other than using stainless screws and lanolin)

Thanks IM
