Disco tyres

Hi all,

When going over my Disco 2.5 TDI I noticed that it has on 235/80 tyres and a

235/70 spare. NOT HELPFUL. Anyway I am a little worried that the large tyres might be catching the bodywork on rough roads. Should it really be fitted with 235/70's or will the present tyres be okay (I know I will need a new spare if I keep the present tyres)?

Yours

Andy

standard size for disco Is is 205R16 or 225/75R16 or 235/70R16. I wasn't aware of 235/80 although they quite possibly exist - the common one is

235/85 which is supplied as a "replacement" for 7.50x16. They probably will catch on the body unless you've either lifted the suspension or modified the arches or both. They do give more ground clearance though. On "normal" roads I doubt they foul anything.

You can legitimately (I think) have a different-sized spare provided it's for emergency use only, like those space-saver ones that some saloons have.
