Tyres for a Disco

I've never tried anything other than BFG AT, which I can heartily recommend, on our Discovery.

We do, however, use it off-road most weekends. Mileage wise we use it on-road most, mainly motorways towing the caravan, but time-wise, off-road going a bit slower .. ;)

I have seen no good reason to change to any other tyre.

I did have some BFG MT's on our series and later some King Pin remoulds that were surprisingly good, but for the Disco BFG AT all the way.

The BFGoodrich Long Trail range has been discontinued for some time now and replaced (as you correctly post) by the Macadam, this is a totally road biased tyre with directional tread, a very good tyre with quite stiff sidewalls and giving good tread life , we have had customers getting up to

Avon Ranger AT on my disco, nice and grippy on the road, not tried 'em seriously off road and can't comment on mileage.

I have fitted my ser1 300tdi with cooper discoverer at's. Not tested them in anything other than a bit of sand yet, but they seem to be giving good milage and grip in wet and dry. Not sure if you get these in the UK. Dunlop bring them into South Africa.

Just put a set of Marshall KL12's (same tyre as Kumho KL12, same company!) on the disco2. Initial impressions, compared to the crappy wranglers it came with, are that they are quieter, grip better in the wet and give a smoother ride. Time will tell on the wear front. Set of 4 (255/55-18) fitted, £330ish!! a lot better than the £175 PER TYRE the local National Tyres depot wanted for wranglers!! Got them through

Had some Nankang Wide Conquerors on the 110, they were surprisingly good for the money - about 240 for a set of 4.

Well I suppose everyone has their favourite tyre. At the moment I have Michelin on our Discovery and BFG All Terrain T/A's on our 90. I find the BFG superb and will be fitting a set to the Discovery within the next 1000 miles. We also had them on our Range Rover and in all the time we had it there was no sign of wear. Richard
