Discovery II. Oversize tyre on spare wheel ?? !

Hi.

I am thinking of putting oversize tyres on my Disco II. However, the spare wheel is obviously going to be a problem as it will catch on both the bumper and rear wiper.

Has anyone done this? Is there a simple solution?

TIA.

Howard.

| Thanks for that reply. But I've done some searching on their site and can't finad anything that addresses that problem.

I really am trying to avoid having a slightly smaller spare tyre than the other four!

Thanks,

Howard.

I have seen a modified spare wheel mount (might have been Scoprion Racing) which goes upwards as well as outwards (IYSWIM) and allows massive tyres without fouling the bumper. I doubt if they are cheap, though.

I'm sure I don't need to tell you that having a spare of a different size is a Bad Idea.

Howie Hi,

please have a look here

around 3/4 of the page. It is a custom made spare wheel carrier but I think they will be able to sell you one.

On the other hand I remember about an easier solution which uses the standard spare wheel carrier and an extension which is bolted onto the three factory bolts where the rim is located.

Howie Hi again,

did some searching on my archives and found the following.

  1. If your spare wheel tyres needs less than 2" to fit you can remove the factory spare wheel carrier and bolt it again upside down. This gives 2" of extra clearance without any other need for money or welding etc.

  1. If you need more than +2" of space then call Devon4X4

and they can sell you their Discovery spare wheel carrier which accepts larger tyres.

Howie Hi,

Glad to be of assistance.

If you decide to go the "invert the factory spare wheel carrier" way could you please send me a couple of photos?
