HELP PLEASE MY DISCO NEEDS YOU

Dec 13, 2004 3 Replies

Hi all,

Well for the last couple of days my Disco has been running a bit hot, it has not overheated. (It is a 200tdi, 7 seater) anyway tonight I noticed was a bit of blue smoke that improved if I left it idling for a couple of mins and allowed it to cool. Anyway went to the header tank and it was stone cold, even though temp was showing as very hot. The heater was blasting out very hot air.

So I am thinking Thermostat - this has only been for the last 120 miles maximum. Anything else I should look for and do you think it has done any other damage?

Any help please

Andrew

overheating and smokey, head gasket?

The thermostat is probably the first port of call, but while you're at it, I'd think about draining the coolant, backflushing the radiator, and flushing water through everything that you'd expect to find water running through to see if there's a blockage elsewhere?

I'd be thinking along those lines too and also paying particular attention to avoiding the possiblity of airlocks when refilling.
