hitch bit wanted

i'm making a lifting cradle to tow my motorbike behind my motorhome, (sliding post that lowers to the floor, ride bike into wheel cradle, pump up the bottle jack to raise the post to ride height, lock in place and drive off)

To mount the assembly to the van, i've picked up the rear half of a landrovers height adjustable hitch mount.. the thing with 5 holes in the sides, that a U shaped (sort of) front plate goes over, and a pin through one of the holes to set the height.

I'm using one of these to make the bike towing carrier removeable when not in use.. and with a spare plate i can go back to a normal ball hitch for a trailer.

BUT, all i could get is the back half of the height adjustable hitch off the lanrdrover in the scrapper, the front plate was long gone,

Don't suppose anyone on here has one laying about, with the pin, that they don't need anymore?? needs to be very very cheap... rusty if fine as i'll be welding to it painting it to match the van.

Idealy within driving distance of Grantham/Nottingham way.

Also, anyone got a steel pin type tow hitch?? i need an all steel one, not a cast one, as i need the jaws to be horizontal, as they'll be carrying the load of the bike on the cradle's pivot, so the cast ones that have angled jaws to ease hitching are no good.

Again a cheap rusty one is ideal.

One time e-mail address for me... don't hit reply, it's never been an e-mail addy there... use:

you can make one from a slice of channel, with a 3/4" hole drilled in the right place. Mine is like that, 'cos I made it meself. 3/4 tractor link pin or similar, or a bit of 3/4" bright mild steel bar, makes yer pin.

I spose you'll want dimensions, next...

if you have a decent steel supplier anywhere near, they should be able to saw off 6" or so of channel (it might be the metric equivalent of 7"x3", I can measure if you want) and drill the hole, and supply either a pin or a bit of bar and some R clips.

I think all the steel to make mine (both bits) came to about 10 quid, but then again I did the drilling etc. meself, 'cos I have a big enough drilling machine.
