Heh, if you've got some land with some water, enough to play with a Stalwart on, then the stalwart is a tad more interesting than a 6x6 rangie! It's a shame it's not a swimmer but apparently only missing a few parts.

The Stolly is a great bit of kit but a totally B@stard to look after.

You cant drive them onroad for long as the bevels wind up and need constant reseting (drive around muddy patch, or jack wheels up to unwind)

Swimming kits are possible but again you would need to carry out massive pre-swim checks and then afterards post-swim checks.

Get a feel for them at this Yahoo Groups forum. There are some seriously knowledgable guys there.

Not long ago I saw a programme where they restored one of these and they had a hell of a job to get the swimming pumps. Apparently MoD removed all for some reason before they released them ??

I know someone who bought a working but scruffy one for £350 and sold it straight on for £500, so if it's knackered then probably not worth it.

The MOD decided they shouldnt swim any more, and removed the bevel boxes that drive the hydrojets, and often the hydrojets too. Presumably on the basis that if they left them with the swim gear some idiot squaddy would drive it into a river without reaslising that the rear loadbed seals were a long way past being watertight (without which it will sink)
