Kelmarsh Cancelled

LRO and LRW shows are run by "outside agencies" generally.

But other shows are completely run by even organisers for their own benefit, sometimes they get sponsered by the odd magazine, but in this area we only seem to have the "xxx magazine show". Greg

Greg,

It was, IMHO , these non-Magazine shows that caused the glut of shows last year, and the downturn in show attendances. The "Land Rover Fest" shows are not run by any magazines....AFAIK.

The best show, in terms of "lets see what Land Rovers can really do" is run by the ALRC - The Nationals. Not much shopping though, since a large proportion of attendees get involved in the action - either driving, marshalling, scruitineering, sorting out camping etc etc. There's no porfessional organisers there, and its much better for it.

From hazy memory, the "magazine show" idea comes from the days when LRO was the only mag, complete with dodgy black and white cover, and it really was an enthusists mag (the same team sold it, waited x years to meet the conditions of sale, and then set up LRE), run more for love than money. Someone suggested a get-together, the mag co-ordinated it, and off it went. The newcommers since them seem to have felt the need to have a show of their own, becuase it "would be the best", but as they are all part of publishing empires finance seems to be the driving force rather than a true love of the marque (LRO turned up in Jeeps to the Nationals at Horseshoe Pass a few years back, which tells you all you need to know) . I well remember the first few editions of LRW - talk about making waves! Or it might have been LRM....., but for those first few months it wasn't necessary to have the mags name on each page so you'd know which one you are reading.

hmmm. maybe AFL can run the Malvern show. Actually, seeing as it was LROI, it's possible (likely) that the actual event was run by an event management company, anyone remember who?
