Most likely leak around oil filter housing 300tdi

Hi Nige, My old 300TDI leaked from the sump pan. Took it off. cleaned it up and refitted it with that really think engineers black silicon. Never even threatened to leak after that. Its a good time to clean the oil pick up while its off. I sprayed mine with brake cleaner and it dropped a right clod of congealed oil off the strainer. Wouldn't be helping circulation.

The *only* silicone type sealant that should ever been used on an engine sump is made by ThreeBond.

Have you checked the oil cooler pipes as well? Revised 3 times by Landrover to the best of my knowledge, in an attempt to cure leaks! Badger.

Hylomar is great - I use it often. For most engine sumps and gasketless mating faces like some gearbox housings I feel ThreeBond is better. It's OEM for quite a few of the Japanese manufacturers (who don't often have oil leaks).

I tried cheap options when sealing the sump of the RRC with VM engine. Leaked everytime incl Hylomar products.

I ended up shelling out a stupid stupid stupid amount of money on what was recommended in the workshop manual and it worked first time thank god cos it was a stuipid price.

Yup sumat like that cetainly had numbers like that after it's name.

got it from Brown Bros in Stoke on Trent. Something like £35 for a tube a bit fatter than a Toothpaste tube of the stuff.
