New Range brake wear

Had to change both front and rear brake pads on a may 2003 RR after only

11,000 miles, is this normal or had the driver been a bit heavy on the brakes, but the RR has done 11,000 miles in 8 months, mostly German autobahn, so the thing gets hammered.

Thanks for your comments.

Not bad really, 11000 in 8 months is not that high a mileage ... and certainly isn't 'hammered' .. ;)

My last company car, a Renault Laguna, also got used a lot on the motorways (UK and France) and towing a caravan every weekend, had it's first full set of pads within 6000 miles .. a new set of disks at 18000 and pads regularly at 6000 to 8000 mile intervals afterwards, with disks at about 30000 mile intervals, and ran for about 129000 in two years before we changed it. And this car's maybe a third the weight of a RR .. ;)

I'd suggest it's not too way out, especially if it is mostly motorway mileage

If my experience of Autobahns is anything normal, then although you don't brake often, it can be very hard braking - bleeding off a lot of speed in a hurry with a vehicle that heavy can wear pads and discs out quickly.

Also, modern braking systems (pad friction material) rely on a higher percentage of disc-to-pad wear so expect new discs more often than you might expect

When I bought my Td6 Vogue in April, I was advised to take out the VIP service package, as the RaRo was prone to eating disc pads in about 8 - 12k. Ironically, I never needed to replace pads. Got rid of RaRo before it got that high in mileage....
