New rear propshaft

I've found out that the whirring from the back is not the UJs, Diff or the wheel bearings. It seems that my rear propshaft is knackered. To be precise there is one hell of a lot of play where the two parts of the shaft fit together, the splined part.

I always greased it a fair bit, but a while ago I split the two parts and the plastic coating on the male part came off. I thought it would be OK, forgot about it and now it's very knackered.

60 something quid from paddocks, wonder if it comes with new UJs too.....

Bought my front one from Landrover Supermarket, but it came complete with UJ's - worth getting new bolts and nuts (cheap) and if you can lay your hands on a tool for getting to the bolts (looks a bit like a wine glass and costs about £15 - try

's well worth it. I ended up with a socket, plus long extension, plusimpact driver. You need to keep rotating the shaft to get best access tothe bolts, and it's always the last one that gives most fun - good luck!

I just use a spanner on mine. 9/16" AF. the bolts are 3/8 UNF. That's for a fairly early 110, I'm not sure if later they went metric, but I bet they didn't :-)
