Exactly what I was thinking - we have a client with a lot of obsolete process control gear who we charge on that basis (seeing as we are the only people who can keep it running).

I presume you work in one of the aforementioned "professions". Sorry I'm a mere mortal who hasn't got a clue what mechanics lien is ?

I'm afraid you'll have to excuse my current tendency to rant about this. After 3 years of asking my accountants for a breakdown of their extortionate and steadily escalating bills and 3 years of backing down and paying without said breakdown I finally got one last year. This would have been good if it hadn't been so transparently made up on the spot, further enquiries revealed that they calcualte the bill by charging out the hours that each clerk, accountant, director or teaboy spends on the accounts, A request for a breakdown of these hours was met with the claim that they could provide them but they'd have to charge me for doing so, at that point it was time for a new accountant!

I don't mind being charged for the work but if they think they can charge me for printing out a sheet of paper to answer a query about my bill they can do without my business.

Some professions seem to have it far to easy and as a result are complacent about customer satisfaction.
