I missed out on OO M a big wing works rolling shell many years agoand that was for peanuts just needed an engine and a big nutbehind the steering wheel...............Derek

I missed out on an ex-works Mk1 rally car in around 1989, but I /just/ couldn't afford it at the time.

TBH, if you have a look at the prices for Mk1 Escort 2 doors, that's not a huge amount of money for one. I know a garage that just sold a very very clean low mileage unrestored Mk1 RS2000 for £42000.

A chap I know sold an RS1800 Custom (mega rare) to a bloke from New Zealand for £18500 and that was 8 years ago.

You'll get over £1500 for a tidy Mk1 or Mk2 2 door shell, bare, nowadays.

I'm fairly certain I have driven that vehicle.

Seems a lot of money for a motor well down on my desirability list I can understand the value on the RS motors still plenty of lads ( well they were when I was a Mini Se7en member ) competing on classic events. The difference being they now have the money for that kit rather than the (occassional ropey) conversions done on vanilla escorts.

5 Days to go so it should be interesting to see what it tops out at in perpective a series 3 went for £565 this morning shame I have a drive full of Landy really need a bigger house! Derek

was a very nice thing. Ian Harwood Ltd in Ellesmere Port was the vendor.

Having said that, I sold a Mk2 RS2000 Custom in 1992 for over £9k, but that was exceptionally nice.

Any nice Mk2 2drs out there in NZ, I'd be willing to travel for a nice one, provided the price is right.

Virtually no RS2000s as AFAIK they were never officially sold here. There were however a lot of 1600 'Sport' 2 door Mks2s sold here and there are still decent examples available for reasonable money.

A 1600 Sport would do nicely. Extremely easy to drop a 2.0 in, and I've still got an RS sump, engine mounts and bellhousing in the garage somewhere.
